Investing in Our Local Youth Means Investing in Our Future
At Midwest Electric we believe that our local youth hold the future in their hands. Because of this, we believe in giving them as many opportunities as we can to help them foster problem-solving skills, teamwork and critical thinking. Which may lead them to career fields in the ever-changing energy industry.
One example of Leadership Development that Midwest Electric is proud to sponsor is attendance to the NREA Youth Energy Leadership Camp held each summer. The primary objective of this camp is to provide knowledge and skills necessary to tackle the challenges that lie ahead in the field of energy. Participants have the opportunity to explore power generation and distribution, as well as gain leadership skills and they have the opportunity to meet with industry professionals.
Another great perk of attending the NREA Youth Energy Leadership Camp is those attendees get the opportunity to then attend the Youth Tour in Washington D.C. the following summer. About 20 students across the state are selected to represent Nebraska on this trip. Students meet up with other rural high school students from across America at the annual National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Youth Day. While in Washington D.C. students also spend the week touring popular historical sites.
Midwest Electric also offers scholarships to children of our members each spring. We are proud to offer 2 - $500 Scholarships given in conjunction with Tri-State G & T and a $1,000 Scholarship given with Basin Electric. In addition, Midwest Electric also offers a $1,000 Lineman Scholarship to a local youth attending an approved Utility Line Program.
The culture of Safety First is also an important value that we are passionate about. We are more than happy to give demonstrations to schools and area organizations with our Electrical Safety Demonstration Trailer. There are also smaller demonstrations that we can bring into the classroom. Our goal is to educate students on the different types of energy and to show them how we deliver reliable electricity to their homes, farms and area businesses.
If you, or someone you know, is interested in any of these programs, please feel free to contact our office today at (308) 352-4356
